Venice Youth Hostel

Continued from page 1

ACTV landing platform

ABOVE: Turn right for the Venice Youth Hostel after you've left the Zitelle vaporetto stop.

Reaching the Ostello Venezia

The Venice Hostel is near the Zitelle vaporetto stop on the island of Giudecca, which is served by the 2 (formerly the 82), 41, and 42 waterbuses. Exit the landing platform, turn right, and walk to the hostel, which is a couple of minutes away on foot.

Here's the easiest way to reach Zitelle by vaporetto from the railroad station (Ferrovia) and the bus terminal (Piazzale Roma):

  • Catch the No. 2 vaporetto in the direction of Tronchetto. This means the boat coming from your left at the railway station or coming from your right at Piazzale Roma.
  • Stay on until you reach Zittele, which is one stop beyond Redentore. (Don't confuse it with Zattere, on the other side of the canal!)

The boat trip will take 15 or 20 minutes. The fare is an outrageous €6,50. (See my Venice vaporetto fares article.) You can get a discount if you've applied for a Rolling Venice card at the youth tourist office in the train station. A half-day to three-day travel card (available at any Actv vaporetto or bus ticket office) or a 1-, 3-, or 7-day Venice Card may be a good value if you plan to use public transportation extensively.

  • Tip: You'll see a fare listed for baggage at the vaporetto ticket booth. This doesn't apply if you're carrying up to two normal-size suitcases or backpacks, but you can double-check with the ticket agent if you're hauling a steamer trunk or feeling insecure.
