General Advice

Where to Stay in Venice and Mestre
Doze like a doge in a palatial hotel, or huddle with the hoi polloi in a dormitory. It's up to you--and your pocketbook.

Hostel

Venice Hostel
The Ostello Venezia is a bargain (except for the waterbus fare), and my directions make it easy to reach.

Hotels

Hotels Near the Piazza San Marco
If you're a first-time visitor to Venice, you'll probably want to stay near St. Mark's Square, the Basilica, and the Doge's Palace. Our article describes hotels on all sides of the Piazza, in every price category.

Venice Airport Hotels
Got an early flight or heaps of luggage? Whether you're going to Marco Polo or Treviso airport, pick a hotel that's convenient to transportation.

Venice Railroad Station Hotels
If you're in Venice for only a few days, stay at a hotel that you can reach easily on foot from the station--even with heavy luggage.

Venice Cruise Terminal Hotels
My four-page article describes hotels near the Piazzale Roma (for Marittima), San Basilio, and the shuttle pier at San Marco-Vallaresso.

Hotel Ai Due Fanali
If you're looking for a romantic, moderately-priced hotel within a few minutes' walk of the railroad station or the Piazzale Roma, the Ai Due Fanali is a great choice. It's on a quiet little square next to the Grand Canal, and you can eat breakfast on a rooftop terrace.

Alloggi Marinella
This delightful first-class inn (equivalent to a three-star hotel) is on a quiet neighrhood street right off the Piazzale Roma. It's especially handy for cruise passengers or guests with early-morning flights from Venice Airport.

Hotel San Moisé
This three-star hotel in San Marco is perfect for a honeymoon or romantic weekend--especially if you book a room overlooking Venice's most musical canal.

Hotel Cipriani
Venice's most exclusive resort hotel is just a few minutes by private launch from St. Mark's Square.

Locanda del Ghetto
If you're Jewish or simply have an interest in the Venetian Ghetto, try this newish hotel in Venice's medieval Jewish quarter.

Luna Hotel Baglioni
Crusaders slept at Venice's oldest hotel in 1118. Nearly 900 years later, the Luna is still serving luxury-minded guests at the same location next to the Piazza San Marco and Napoleon's Royal Gardens.

San Clemente Palace
This luxury hotel on a beautifully landscaped 17-acre private island has 205 rooms, a swimming pool and tennis courts, and its own 12th Century church. The hotel is 15 minutes from San Marco by private launch.

Best Western Hotel Bologna (Mestre)
If you prefer to stay on the mainland, this excellent and affordable hotel is hard to beat: It's directly across from the Mestre Railroad Station, where you can catch trains into Venice from early morning until late in the evening.

Hotel Continental (Treviso)
Treviso's Canova Airport serves Ryanair, Wizzair, Germanwings, and several other budget airlines. The 1950s-style Hotel Continental is a convenient place to stay on your way in or out of Treviso.

Molino Stucky Hilton: Airport and Cruise Transportation
This large, expensive hotel and convention center is in a former industrial quarter on the island of Giudecca, but it's surprisingly accessible from the airport and cruise terminals.
