Isola di Sant'Elena: The island of Sant'Elena lies
off the tip of historic Venice--or, rather, it did until the island and its
convent were made the target of various reclamation projects from 1872 through
the 1920s. Over a half-century period, marshes were drained and replaced by
parade grounds, streets, houses, apartment buildings, and the large Parco delle
Rimembranze, which is home to the city's football (soccer) stadium.
