Hotel Da Bruno

ABOVE: Need dessert after the Hotel Da
Bruno's buffet breakfast? No problem--an artisanal gelato shop
is next door.
Category:
Three-star hotel.
Location: On the Salizzada San Lio
in Castello, halfway between the Rialto Bridge and the Piazza San Marco.

stop: Rialto. Convenient
when:
You
want to be next door to
La Boutique del Gelato (which many Venetians believe is the best
gelateria in Venice, and you
don't mind walking a reasonable distance from the nearest airport-boat
or vaporetto pier. (If you can justify the high price of a
water taxi, you'll find a boat
landing right by the hotel.)
The
hotel, like its gelato-purveying neighbor, has an excellent reputation:
The Sartore family has owned the Hotel Da Bruno for three generations,
and the traditionally-furnished rooms includes triples and quads (which
aren't always easy to find in Venice). As a bonus, Wi-Fi is free, and
it's available throughout the hotel. The only downside is the lack of an
elevator, which may discourage guests with weak knees or limited
mobility. Compare rates:
