Venetian-Byzantine façade. INSET BELOW: Architectural details inside the

hotel. Category:
Three-star hotel.

Formosa, an easy walk from either the Piazza San Marco or the Rialto
Bridge. Closest
Alilaguna Airport Boat

Convenient when:
You want a central (and appealing) location on the San Marco and
Castello side of the Grand Canal.
The Hotel Palazzo Vitturi occupies a 13th Century Venetian-Byzantine
palazzo that was renovated a few years ago. It overlooks the
Campo Santa Maria
Formosa, a large and lively neighborhood square that's almost
equidistant from two of Venice's most important landmarks: the
Piazza San Marco and the
Rialto Bridge.
The setting couldn't be better, and the hotel also has a lot going for
it--such as impeccably restored frescoes, terrazzo floors, plasterwork,
wood paneling, and stone carvings, leavened by modern touches that
include marble bathrooms, wheelchair access in all areas, and air
conditioning throughout the premises.
Just as important, the rates are reasonable by Venice hotel
standards--especially for an historic property with so much artwork and
atmosphere. Compare rates:
Aerial photos:
-
In the first satellite image, you can see the Campo
Santa Maria Formosa near the right side of the frame, almost due
east of the Rialto Bridge and north of the Piazza San Marco and St.
Mark's Basilica. (The Hotel Palazzo Vitturi is on the east side of
the square.)
-
The second photo is a close-up of the Campo Santa
Maria Formosa. The Hotel Palazzo Vitturi is directly across from the
church, just to the left of the Calle dei Orbi.
