East - Hotels in the direction of Castello
The hotels on this page are toward the east and northeast of the Piazza San Marco. They're less convenient to the airport boat than the hotels mentioned earlier, but they aren't difficult to reach unless you're burdened with heavy luggage. They're also handy for sightseeing, since you can easily get to the vaporetto stops at San Zaccaria (just east of the Piazza San Marco) and the Rialto Bridge. (Caution: Streets in this area be confusing, so buy a good map before you head for the hotel.)
The Casa Verardo and Best Western Montecarlo (3 stars each) are very close to the Piazza San Marco. Both have excellent user ratings from Venere.
Other hotels along the San Marco-Castello border include Colombina (4 stars), Bridge (3 stars), Castello (3 stars), and Locanda La Corte (3 stars). Just to the east are Commercio e Pellegrino (3 stars), La Locandiera (a reasonably-priced "Town House Suites 1st category" property that Venere, our booking partner, ranks as a 3-star hotel).

Slightly farther to the northeast, the Casa Santa Maria Formosa is a tiny eight-room inn next to the campo, or square, of Santa Maria Formosa. The square is one of the most delightful in Venice, with considerable neighborhood activity and many shops, cafés, and restaurants nearby.
Also on the campo are:
Scandinavia (3 stars), which offers two- to four-person rooms in a traditionally furnished palazzo that was begun in 1000 A.D. Eight of the hotel's 34 rooms overlook the square.
The
Venetian Gothic
Palazzo Vitturi (3 stars), whuich has reasonably-priced doubles, triples,
quads, and suites. Some rooms face the Church of Santa Maria Formosa and the
square.
Da
Bruno
(3 stars) is an attractive 32-room hotel on the Salizzada San Lio just northwest
of the campo. As a bonus, Da Bruno is across the street from La Boutique del
Gelato, which some Venetians regard as the best ice-cream shop in the city. Its
location is especially convenient to the Rialto Bridge and sights on the left
bank of the Grand Canal.
