Hotel des Bains photo

ABOVE: The Hotel Des Bains, which is being redeveloped as a luxury apartment complex, has a private beach with cabaas on the Adriatic Sea.

Lido hotels

Five stars

Hotel Westin Excelsior Palace photoHotel Excelsior
This mock Moorish palace, formerly known as the Excelsior Palace, was the largest hotel in the world when it opened for business in 1912. Its location near the Casino is a fairly long walk from the heart of the Lido, but private launches make it easy for guests to reach Venice's historic center.

Four stars

Biasutti Hotels
Two converted mansions, the Biassuti Villa Adria-Urania and Villa Nora, form a hotel with the three-star Villa Ada (see below). In summer, you can rent a cabaa at the beach, which is 10 minutes away on foot.

Hotel Hungaria Palace photoHotel Hungaria Palace
Unless you're a diehard Bauhaus buff, you'll love the over-the-top Art Nouveau tiled faade of this century-old resort hotel on the Gran Viale Santa Elisabetta. The hotel is nicely situated, with the beach in one direction and the vaporetto stop to the city enter in the other. It's a good choice for a summer honeymoon or a beach weekend.

Hotel Villa Mabapa
The Best Western Villa Mabapa has lagoon views, a boat landing stage, and private beach facilities for guests. The original villa was built in the 1930s; today, the hotel consists of three villas that share a private garden.

Three stars

Hotel Biasutti Villa Ada photoBiasutti Villa Ada
Guests at this less expensive annex of the four-star Biasutti Hotels (see above) have use of the main hotels' facilities.

Hotel Giardinetto
This hotel in the Lido's main shopping area was renovated in 1999, and all rooms now have private baths.

Hotel La Meridiana photoHotel La Meridiana
The Meridiana is a restored 1930s-style building with a private beach and a location just two minutes from the Casino waterbus stop.

Two stars

Hotel Reiter
This renovated 27-room hotel is on the Lido's main street, 100 meters from the beach. Rates are extremely moderate by Venice standards.

Hotel Villa Stella
The vaporetto from the Piazza San Marco will drop you off near this family-run hotel. Rates are modest by Venice standards, and breakfast is served in the garden during the summer months.

Chioggia and Sottomarina hotels

From Venice's Lido, a narrow strip of land continues south to Chioggia (the main fishing port of the lagoon) and the neighboring Adriatic beach area of Sottomarina, where the following hotels are located:

Four stars

Bristol
Two pools and children's activities make this four-star hotel  popular with Italian families.

Three stars

Ambasciatore
The "Ambassador" is a modern hotel on the seafront. It has 60 rooms and a restaurant.

Sole
In addition to singles, doubles, triples, and quads, the family-friendly Sole has 12 mini-apartments with dining areas.
