Venice Two-Star Hotels
Antica Locanda Montin
This tiny, 200-year-old inn is known primarily for its popular restaurant (which
has an outdoor garden in summer),
but its 12 rooms have long been popular with artists, writers, and history buffs
who value tradition and antique furnishings over modern comforts. The hotel is
near the Campo San Barnaba. See
guest comments.
Ca' San Trovaso
This renovated hotel is in Dorsoduro, not far from the Zattere and the ancient
squero, or boatyard, where Venice's gondolas are built by hand. In
summer, you can relax outdoors on the altana, or roof garden. Try for a
room with a courtyard or canal view. See
guest comments.
Hotel
Falier
All rooms have showers at the Falier, which is reasonably priced by
Venice standards and is near the delightful Campo Santa Margherita and the Frari
Church. The Piazzale Roma and the railroad station are about 10 minutes away on
foot. See
guest comments.
Hotel Florida
The Florida is 100 meters from the railway station by the Ponte degli Scalzi
bridge. Rooms are air-conditioned, with telephone jacks for modems, and guests
receive a 50% discount at the Tronchetto parking garage. See
guest comments.
Hotel Hesperia
The Hesperia overlooks the Canarregio Canal from its location near the railway
station, the Ghetto, and the Lista di Spagna. Rooms include doubles and triples.
Hotel La Residenza
The former Palazzo Gritti-Badoer has a 15th Century façade
that incorporates Byzantine fragments from the 10th Century, and the lounge
could have been plucked from an aristocrat's mansion. The hotel is slightly
inland from the Riva degli Schaivioni, between the Piazza San Marco and
Arsenale.
Hotel Reiter
(Lido)
This renovated 27-room hotel is on the Lido's main street, 100 meters from the
beach. Rates are extremely moderate by Venice standards. See
guest comments.
Locanda Al Soffiador (Murano)
Not many tourists stay on
Murano, the "glass island", which is in the Venetian lagoon and about 10
minutes from the historic center by water bus. If you're a serious shopper, you
may enjoy the convenience of hauling purchases back to your hotel between visits
to the local glass factories and showrooms. The Locanda has double, triple, and
quad rooms plus a bar and restaurant. See
guest comments.
Locanda Ss. Giovanni e Paolo
With a location near the church of the same name, the Locanda Ss. Giovanni e
Paolo is convenient for sightseeing but off the main tourist track. Rooms have
beamed ceilings and are furnished in 18th Century Venetian style.
Hotel
Villa
Stella (Lido)
The vaporetto from the Piazza San Marco will drop you off near this
family-run hotel. Rates are modest by Venice standards, and breakfast is served
in the garden during the summer months.
Hotel
Wildner
The Wildner faces St. Mark's Basin, a short walk along the waterfront
from the Basilica and the Doge's Palace. It's a good choice for travelers who
can't afford the Danieli but crave a hotel (and maybe a room) with a view. See
