Two converted mansions, the Biassuti Villa Adria-Urania and Villa Nora, form a

For one of the most enviable hotel views in Venice, book one of the two rooms
with balconies that overlook the Piazzetta at St. Mark's Square. (That is, if
you can get a reservation, which is more easily said than done.)

featured in a 1990s movie, Blame it on the Bellboy.The

Hungaria Palace (Lido)
Unless you're a diehard Bauhaus buff, you'll love the over-the-top Art Nouveau
tiled façade of this century-old resort hotel on
the Lido's Gran Viale Santa Elisabetta. The hotel is nicely situated, with the
beach in one direction and the vaporetto stop to the city enter in the other.
It's a good choice for a summer honeymoon or a beach weekend.

Wood-paneled rooms and marble baths give a feeling of luxury to this very pleasant
three-star hotel, which is located a few blocks from St. Mark's Square near the
San Moisé Church. The canal side of the hotel has a landing for water taxis or
gondolas, and front rooms have street views.

is near the Piazza San Marco. All rooms are furnished with antiques; many have
balconies. The Londra Palace is especially convenient if you're arriving or
departing by air, since the pier for the airport boat is close by.

and 72 guest rooms. The hotel is on the Riva degli Schiavoni, facing the Basino

NH Manin
This outpost of an upscale Spanish hotel group opened in 2004. It occupies a
restored 19th Century palazzo on the Grand Canal next to the S. Angelo
vaporetto stop. When the weather is warm, breakfast is served on a patio in the
hotel's walled garden.

This hotel faces the Grand Canal. Behind it is the Lista di Spagna, a pedestrian thoroughfare that leads to the railroad station nearby. The area is
pleasant enough and convenient if you don't feel like hauling your luggage

traveling with a family or feel cramped in a standard hotel room. A buffet
breakfast is included. The hotel is through an arch and across a short bridge

To get away from the crowds, head for the Sant' Elena residential neighborhood
near the tip of Venice's historic center, which you can reach on foot or by
vaporetto. The Hotel Sant' Elena is especially pleasant in spring, summer, or
fall, when you can enjoy the deck chairs in the garden. Rates include a buffet
breakfast, and the hotel is wheelchair-accessible.
