Virgin Voyages SCARLET LADY.

ABOVE: Scarlet Lady was the first of three ships n Virgin's cruise fleet.

Virgin Voyages is the brainchild of Richard Branson, the British billionaire who founded Virgin Megastores, Virgin Atlantic (an airline), and--more recently--Virgin Galactic, which bills itself as "the world's first commercial spaceline." Having tested his entrepreneurial skills in music, the air, and outer space, Mr. Branson decided to get his feet wet by launching a cruise line in 2020.

Virgin's first season was in the Caribbean, but with the addition of a second ship (Valiant Lady) in 2022, the company entered the European cruise market. Both ships displace 110,000 gross tons and have a capacity of 2,700 passengers. A third sister ship, Resilient Lady, joined the fleet in 2023.

From May to October of 2024, Virgin Cruises is offering a full roster of Mediterranean itineraries from Portsmouth, Athens, and Barcelona. The line's competitive fares include unlimited Wi-Fi, most non-alcoholic beverages, access to "any and all of our 20+ eateries," and crew gratuities.

Families, please note: Virgin Cruises is an "adults only" cruise line, with a minimum booking and sailing age of 18.
