Spitsbergen Cruise Photos

From: MS Nordstjernen cruise review

Baggage deck

The baggage deck holds luggage only during embarkation and at the end of the cruise. The rest of the time, it's used as a staging area for shore landings.

Whenever my "Polar Bears" group was called over the loudspeakers, we'd come to the bggage deck to put on lifejackets and exit (via a door on the port side) to the gangway and our waiting PolarCirkel boats.

(Note: In the Nordstjernen's days as a Hurtigruten coastal steamer, the baggage deck probably held baggage throughout the voyage, since day passengers and travelers who couldn't afford cabins would have parked their bags there before heading for the lounges and open decks.)
