Silversea Cruises photo - Veranda Suite

Veranda Suite

Of the 194 passenger accommodations on the Silver Whisper, 128 are Veranda Suites. These spacious cabins have an area of 345 sq. ft. ( 32 m).

As you enter a Veranda Suite, you'll pass the bathroom. This is nicer than the bathrooms in most hotels, with marble tiles and a twin-sink marble countertop. The bathroom also has a separate bathub and glass-doored shower stall. (Towels are replenished twice a day, and terrycloth bathrobes are also provided.)

Next, you'll see a door with a full-length mirror. Behind the door is a walk-in closet with plenty of wooden hangers and a large storage unit with clothing drawers and an electronic safe. (One of the drawers contains a hair dryer and emergency sewing kit.)

The sleeping area has twin beds that can be configured as a queen-sized bed (you'll be asked for your preference before the cruise). Other furnishings include nightstands with reading lamps and a make-up table with a drawer and upholstered stool.

Beyond the sleeping area, through an arch that can be closed off by a curtain, you'll find a seating area with a couch, an upholstered chair, a coffee table that can be converted into a dining or breakfast table for two, and an inlaid hardwood wall unit that contains a liquor cabinet, refrigerator, writing desk, swiveling TV, storage cabinets, drawers, and shelves. (If you need ice, just look in the refrigerator, where the ice bucket is topped up twice a day.)

In 16 Veranda Suites, the couch opens into a berth for a third passenger.

Heavy sliding glass doors open onto a teak balcony that has two deck chairs, footstools, and a small table for your coffee cup or Champagne and caviar.

We spent 12 days in our Veranda Suite and found it very comfortable. The only noise from the next suite was the doorbell, which was loud enough to be heard through the wall.

Note: About half of the Veranda Suites are called "Deluxe Veranda Suites." Their furnishings are identical with those in other Veranda Suites, but they're located amidships, where you're likely to feel less motion in rough seas.
