Day 6: Hvar, Croatia (4)

Back street in Hvar, Croatia

Leaving symbols of Croatia, the Confederacy, and beer brands behind, we returned to the city center and climbed a staircase to the narrow and atmospheric streets of Hvar's Old Town.

Hvar's back streets were quiet, and most of the businesses were restaurants, tourist shops, and the occasional hostel or B&B.

Port of Hvar office

We returned to the waterfront--this time, in the center of downtown--and found the Hvar Port Authority office behind a row of moored yachts.

Bakery in downtown Hvar

Not far away, an open-air bakery stall catered to visiting yacht chefs and anyone with a taste for bread and pastries.

A Jadrolinija catamaran was loading passengers for the 70-minute journey to Split, on the Croatian mainland.

Moored boats in Hvar

Around the corner from the ferry, a marina was jammed with small boats.
