Costa Magica Cruise PhotosFrom: Costa Magica Cruise Review Naples (4)
After leaving the public gardens and dogs behind, we headed for the Piazza del Plebiscito, an elegant colonnaded square in the heart of the city. (The domed structure in the photo is the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, which was begun in 1817 and wasn't finished until 29 years later.)
Many European cities are defaced by graffiti, but usually the taggers leave monuments alone. Vandals are less inhibited in Naples, where they have no compunctions about obliterating their city's artistic heritage with spray cans.
At least the vandals don't spray-paint the dogs who nap in the Piazza del Plebiscito, which is closed to vehicle traffic.
