Rosyth (Edinburgh) shore excursions

The Silver Whisper stayed overnight in Rosyth, giving its
passengers nearly two days to enjoy the sights in and around Edinburgh.
Silversea provided free shuttle buses between the pier and Charlotte Square in
Edinburgh. (The buses ran hourly in both directions from morning through late
afternoon.)
Four optional excursions were available, including:
Edinburgh Military
Tattoo, a nighttime show of military pipe bands and overseas groups in a
temporary stadium next to Edinburgh Castle.
Museum of Scotland
and Hopetoun House, a 7-hour
excursion to Edinburgh's newest museum and a stately home just outside the city.
Scone Palace in
Perthshire, billed as "the crowning place of Scottish kings."
The Royal Yacht
Britannia (now permanently moored next to a shopping mall in Leith) and
The Palace of Holyroodhouse
(shown above), the Queen's official residence in Scotland and the former home of
Scottish royalty.
We went on the latter excursion, which lasted five hours. The
guide was excellent and the sights were interesting, but we would have enjoyed
having a little more time in the yacht and the palace. (One downside of group
tours is having to move at the group's pace.)
