Airport (CIA) is the older and smaller of Rome's two commercial
Since 1960, it has played second fiddle to
Leonardo da Vinci International Airport at Fiumicino.
In recent years, however, Ciampino has been redeveloped as a modern airport for
low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, easyJet, and Wizz Air, along with
charter airlines and general aviation.
Unlike some other airports used by low-cost carriers (such
Paris Beauvais or
near Venice), Ciampino is relatively close to the city center.
