ABOVE: The Hotel Danieli is made up of three buildings. The most
historic--and spectacular--is the 14th Century Palazzo Dandalo in the
center of the photo. INSET BELOW: A close-up of the Danieli's
architectural details, and a view from the restaurant upstairs.
Category:

Convenient when:
You're
willing to pay top rates for location, luxury, and atmosphere at a hotel
that vies with the Gritti Palace for the title of "most spectactular
luxury hotel in Venice."
The
Danieli's lobby looks like a movie set, with its ornate Venetian Gothic
architecture and lavish appointments. Upstairs, guest rooms range from
luxury doubles to suites. Rates are as spectacular as the views from
rooms overlooking the lagoon, and as sky-high as the tables in the
rooftop restaurant. Compare

The upper image shows the
Campanile di San
Marco, St.
Mark's Basilica, and the Doge's Palace on the left. Just across
the bridge and to the right, the Danieli's main building (the red
Palazzo Dandolo) shows off its 14th Century Venetian Gothic façade.

In the close-up photo below, you can see an enclosed
bridge (the hotel's answer to the Bridge of Sighs) connecting the
Palazzo Dandolo with the Danieli's adjacent building on the
Riva degli Schiavoni.
