The three-star Hotel Al Gazzettino is named after Venice's best-known daily newspaper, which formerly had its offices across the street. The 10-room hotel is tucked into a quiet back street near the Rialto Bridge and slightly north of the Piazza San Marco. All rooms have free Wi-Fi, and a trattoria (geared to tourists) is on the premises.
Our directions assume that you're taking an (Orange Line) airport boat from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Rialto. Here's the walking route from the Alilaguna pier:
As you leave the boat pier, turn left. Cross the small bridge just ahead of you and walk through the arcaded passage until you see a Goldenpoint underwear shop.
Turn right onto the Calle Larga Mazzini and walk straight ahead to the Campo del San Salvador, which has a memorial column in the street.
Cross the Campo and continue straight ahead to a cross street named Calle delle Balote.
At Calle delle Balote, turn right and walk a few meters to the Calle di Mezzo, which will be on your left. Turn left into the Calle di Mezzo.
The Hotel Al Gazzettino will be just down the street. (Look for a hanging sign.)
