The Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli e Gran Canal is a stylish four-star hotel facing the Grand Canal, immediately next to the San Stae vaporetto and airport-boat pier.
It's also next door to the San Stae Church and across from the Venice Casino, so you can enjoy God, Mammon, or both during your stay.
The hotel is located in the former Foscarini Giovanelli Palace, which housed a doge (the city-state's top elected official) during the heyday of the Venetian Republic.
Although the building has its share of restored architectural detail, the prevailing decor is contemporary.
Accommodations range from attic dormer rooms to junior and not-so-junior suites.
As you leave the boat platform at San Stae, turn left and cross the square in front of the church.
The hotel will be directly in front of you, facing the square.
