photoEmerald Waterways is a new river-cruise line from the Scenic Group that caters to both experienced cruisers and what the company describes as a "younger demographic." The line's four (soon to be five) luxury vessels incorporate unique design features that should appeal to passengers who have cruised on oceangoing ships:

  • A swimming pool with a retractable roof that transforms into a movie theatre after dark.

  • Suites with "indoor balconies" that can be turned into recessed outdoor balconies at the touch of a button.

photoOther features include indoor and alfresco restaurants, a bar-lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows, a bar and gelato station by the pool, and a "Sky Bar" that occasionally pops up (weather permitting) on the large sun deck.

In 2016, Emerald Waterways is offering itineraries on the Rhine, Main, Danube, Saône, and Rhône, with cruises ranging from eight to 17 days in length. Cruise tours that include a land portion are also available.

The line's competitive fares include airport transfers, complimentary drinks at lunch and dinner, WiFi, shore excursions, bicycles for independent touring, and all tips.
