Dubrovnik war damage

Dubrovnik, Croatia

This ruined wall was a grim reminder of the 1991-1992 Siege of Dubrovnik, when the Yugoslav People's Army shelled the city during the Croatian War of Independence. The Grad or Old City was heavily damaged by the Serbian and Montenegran bombardments, and although many buildings have been repaired or rebuilt, some battle scars remain.
