Voyages of Discovery
ABOVE: The MV Discovery. Voyages of Discovery (formerly known as Discovery Cruises in the U.S. market) is a small-ship line with a single vessel: the MV Discovery, a 20,186-ton vessel (formerly the Island Princess) with 350 cabins that accommodate two to four passengers each. Although the ship is equipped for "soft adventure" expeditions to such farflung destinations as the Arctic and Antarctic, it has traditional cruise-ship amenities such as swimming pools, bars, a movie theatre/lecture hall, a gym, an Internet center, and a beauty salon. In 2008, the MV Discovery's European schedule begins in late April with a transatlantic crossing from Barbados to the UK. This is followed by a summer of cruising in Scandinavia and the Baltic, late-summer and fall itineraries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea, and a "North African Treasures" cruise from Alexandria, Egypt to Lisbon.
