Richard LagoonThe Richardlaguna is home to a large summer colony of male walruses. Unlike Moffen, site of our earlier walrus-watching, the Richard Lagoon was open to shore landings. The PolarCirkel boats dropped us off a good distance from the walruses, and we tiptoed through the pebbles until we were within picture-taking distance. Walruses normally aren't dangerous on land, but the guides insisted that we keep quiet and not disturb the animals during their naps. Spitsbergen Cruise - Photo Location Index
