Guernsey (St. Peter Port)
The town of St. Peter Port is the capital and the main port for
Guernsey in the Channel Islands. Several ferry lines provide service to England and France, with
other ferries connecting Guernsey to the nearby islands of Jersey, Alderney, Herm, and
Sark.
Because the harbor is small, cruise ships anchor offshore and
passengers are brought into the port in tenders. The local authorities normally
set up a hospitality tent on the pier where visitors can pick up maps or wait
for the next boat to the ship. (During our visit, the Regatta operated
four tenders, so there was never a queue for travel in either direction.)
