Maratea - Basilica di San Biagio
Before reaching the Redentore statue, you'll pass the Basilica of
San Biagio on the mountain's summit ridge. The church is dedicated to Maratea's
patron saint (San Biago, or St. Blaise) and was financed by Philip II of Spain
in the 17th Century.
The church, the Statua del Redentore, and the adjacent ruins of
Maratea Superiore form a complex of monuments known as the Sanctuary of San
Biagio.
