Telecom Italia Future Centre

photo The Telecom Italia Future Centre is on the Campo San Salvador, next to the S. Salvador church.

Archived article (2004)

Note: In the years since this article was written, the Telecom Italia Future Centre has gone through several incarnations. When we last visited late in 2009, it was being used for special exhibits. It's still worth wandering into just to see the former convent and its courtyards.

Museums in Venice have long honored the city's history and art, but now there's a museum that blends Venetian heritage with computer and communications techology: The Telecom Italia Future Centre, which has turned a 1,000-year-old convent into a high-tech museum for the Internet and videogame generation.

The Telecom Italia Future Centre is a perfect place to take the kids or while away an hour or so on a rainy day. Admission is free, and the location couldn't be handier: The museum is on the Campo San Salvador, along the Mercerie shopping route between the Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. And even if you're a technophobe, you'll enjoy the chance to wander through the courtyards and buildings of the Ex Convento San Salvador.
