Although we weren't in the market for a carpet, we couldn't help being impressed by the Urartu rug store. It had a vast assortment of carpets, runners, and area rugs.

If you are interested in buying a carpet, we'd suggest paying a visit to Urartu Carpets and Kilims, which is just down the street from the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. However, we should mention that, according to the store's owner (the man on the left in the lower photo), the best prospects are tourists who aren't looking to buy carpets--probably because they don't have preconceived notions of what they want.
