Rotterdam departure
We soon passed our ship's predecessor, Rotterdam V, which was launched
in 1958. The ship was a mainstay of Holland America Line's transatlantic service
from 1959 to 1969, when it became a HAL cruise ship until 1997.
After a short stint as the Rembrandt of Premier Cruises, the ship was
acquired by a subsidiary of its original Dutch builders and renamed ss
Rotterdam. When we took these photos in July, 2009, ss Rotterdam was
undergoing restoration work for its new role as a permanently-moored museum ship
and floating hotel.
