The Ludwig II Musical
Continued from page 3: The production

photo

ABOVE: The Musical Theater Neuschwanstein offers a range of dining options, from a white-tablecloth restaurant to a Bavarian beer hall.

Archived article

Update: The musical, Ludwig II: Longing for Paradise, is no longer running (or at least it wasn't running the last time I checked). The Festspielhaus in Füssen in Allgäu now stages operas and other productions and continues to offer gastronomy at various price levels in the theatre's restaurants.

Dining at the theatre

Although you can dine in nearby Füssen before the show, I'd suggest having a meal at one of the theatre's restaurants. Choices include:

Classic Café: Viennese-style coffee and pastries. Fortify yourself for the road after a matinée, or stop in for dessert during the 45-minute intermission at the evening show.

Romantic Restaurant: An elegant dining room with multi-course dinners at first-class prices, plus lunch on weekends and a "theatre platter" during intermissions. The restaurant has only 120 seats, so I'd suggest that you reserve a table by calling +49 (0) 83 62 / 9 39 13 33.

Panoramic Hall: A dinner buffet is offered daily, with brunch/lunch service on weekends.

Bavarian Pub: The Bierwirtschaft und Biergarten is open from late morning through late evening daily, attracting tourists and motorists as well as theatergoers. It's a pleasant, informal spot where you can order a beer with Munich's fabled Weisswurst and other Bavarian specialties.

Champagne Bar. The theatre's 72-foot bar offers drinks and snacks from 6 p.m. through midnight. (On matinée days, service begins at 1 p.m.)

For restaurant pictures and hours of operation, see the official Ludwig II Musical Web site.
