Rothenburg PhotosFrom: Rothenburg ob der Tauber
These traditional-looking modern houses are in a Rothenburg neighborhood that was flattened by Allied bombing on March 31, 1945. Sixteen planes dropped bombs that killed 39 people, destroyed 306 houses, wiped out six public buildings and nine historic towers, and knocked down some 2,000 feet of the city's walls. (The historic towers and walls were restored from their original materials, but new houses replaced the ones that were lost.)
