La Biennale di Venezia
From mid-June until early November in odd-numbered years, Venice hosts a famous modern-art exposition that features painters, sculptors, and performance artists from around the world. See my article for a description of a Biennale from several years ago.

Gran Teatro La Fenice
Venice's opera house was gutted by a fire in 1996, but performances moved to other venues during the theatre's restoration. The theatre is now back in business, and you can book tickets or take a public tour.

Venice International Film Festival
The annual Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica takes place in late August and early September.

Vogalonga
On Ascension Day, Venetian oarfolk from every walk of life race around the Lagoon by rowboat. It's a great spectacle, with nearly a thousand boats on the course. (Note: This official site was being renovated the last time I checked, but give it a try.)
