Zugspitze

This picture of Schneefernerhaus, an environmental research station, was taken while descending to the Zugspitze Glacier Plateau in the Gletscherbahn cablecar.

The research facility, which was a hotel from 1930 until the early 1990s, is operated by the German Weather Service and the Federal Office for Environmental Protection. One of its tasks is to gather data for the World Meteorological Organization's Global Atmospheric Watch.
