Erfurt Innenstadt

The old university was mostly destroyed by Allied bombing in World War II, but the portal survived.

The University of Erfurt was founded in 1392 and was the fourth-oldest in Germany. The Prussian administration closed it down in 1816, but a new university opened in 1994. (Visit the Universit�t Erfurt Web site for information about programs for international students, including summer courses.)
