Villa Maravege Walking directions to Pensione Accademia Villa Maravege (with map)
The
Pensione Accademia Villa Maravege is a longtime favorite with Venetophiles.
The 17th Century villa once served as a Russian embassy and was featured in Summertime, the 1955 David Lean film that starred Katherine Hepburn.
The hotel has views of the Grand Canal and a large walled garden
where breakfast is served in nice weather. It also offers a wide choice of
rooms, ranging from singles to junior suites. Drinks and fruit are free in the
bar from 4 to 8 p.m. each day. How to reach the Pensione Accademia from the Zattere
airport-boat stop:
As you leave the Alilaguna
Linea Blu waterbus pontoon at Zatttere, turn
left and walk to the first canal. Turn right just before the bridge. Walk along the Fondamenta Nani (the sidewalk alongside the
canal) to either the first or second bridge. Cross either bridge to the west (left) side of the canal. Turn right as you leave the bridge and continue walking
along the canal until you reach the gates to the hotel's garden (see top
photo).
