ABOVE: Blue ATVO buses connect Venice's Piazzale Roma with the Venice Marco Polo and Treviso San Giuseppe Airports.

Hotels in this article:
Hotels near the Piazzale Roma - for airport buses and taxis
Hotels near San Marco Giardenetti - for the Alilaguna boat
Hotels in other locations - Venice, Lido, and mainland

Attention cruise passengers: The hotels on this page are good choices if you're arriving or departing on a Venice cruise, since it's only a short taxi ride from the Piazzale Roma to the Venice Cruise Terminal.

Hotels near the Piazzale Roma

Three hotels are very handy for early departures by bus or taxi.

Hotel Antiche Figura (3 stars) overlooks the Grand Canal and has a top rating among guests who have booked through Venere. Singles, doubles, and triples are available.

Hotel Santa Chiara (3 stars) is next to the Grand Canal, close to the Piazzale Roma. It even has a private parking lot, which may be convenient if you arrived with a rental car.

photoHotel Olimpia (3 stars, photo at right) is over a small bridge from the Piazzale Roma. Quads are available, along with one- to three-person rooms.

Ca' Doge has a "town house suites, 1st category" rating, which is equivalent to a 3-star hotel. The Ca' Doge offers free high-speed Internet access and has a parking garage.

Try these hotels if you're traveling light or don't mind bouncing your luggage up and down the steps of a few bridges:

Hotel Airone (2 stars) has single and double rooms, some facing the Grand Canal. To reach it from the Piazzale Roma, head down the steps toward the water, turn right, and walk along the fondamenta or promenade.

photoHotel Arlecchino (3 stars, photo at left). is a short walk from the Piazzale Roma on the Fondamenta delle Burchielle. It has rooms for one to four guests.

photoHotel Canal & Walter (3 stars) has single to quad rooms, some of which face the Grand Canal. It also has a private courtyard and garden (a rarity among Venice hotels) where breakfast is served in warm weather.

Hotel Gardena (3 stars) is of the Tolentini Canal, a few meters inland from the Grand Canal and an easy stroll from the Piazzale Roma. Guest rooms range from singles to quads, and breakfast is served alfresco during the summer months.

Sofitel Venezia (4 stars) is behind the public gardens by the Piazzale Roma. The Sofitel, which belongs to a French international hotel group, is a good choice if you're looking for an upscale hotel in this district.

The photoHotel Abbazia (3 stars) in is a side street close to the railroad station, a bit farther from the Piazzale Roma than some of the other hotels described here. It's a converted monastery, with some rooms overlooking the large garden where breakfast is served in good weather. The Abbazia's 39 rooms include doubles, triples, and quads. See the very favorable guest comments.

photoIf you're willing to head farther afield, you could book at Al Gallo (3 stars), Al Sole (3 stars), the Carlton & Grand Canal (4 stars, photo at left), Palazzo Odoni (3 stars), or the Falier (2 stars), which is a 15-minute walk from the Piazzale Roma but is close to one of my favorite squares in Venice, the Campo Santa Margherita, where you can eat pizza outdoors and wrap up your evening with a cone from the Doge gelato stand.

The Ca' Corte, Capri, Locanda Solieri, Residenza Parisi, and Sofitel Venice are other hotels within leisurely walking distance of the Piazzale Roma; your guidebook should list others.
