Cape Clear Island

from Walking in Ireland

photo

The ferry arrives in the North Harbour of Cape Clear Island, where you'll find the tourist office, public toilets, library, Club Chléire social and cultural center, and a small grocery store and café.

A standing stone and the Well of St. Ciarán are also along the waterfront. St. Ciarán was born on Cape Clear Island in 352 A.D. and was preaching the Christian faith at least 30 years before St. Patrick arrived on the scene.

As you walk uphill, you'll pass a souvenir shop and Cotter's Bar on your way to accommodations and the South Harbour (which is no more than 10 minutes away on foot).
