Cape Clear Island

from Walking in Ireland

photo

photoEd Harper of Cleire Goats has raised goats on Cape Clear Island for more than 20 years. He offers courses in goat husbandry that can last anywhere from a few hours (for tourists with an interest in goats) to several months (for future goat farmers such as the young women from Oregon and Germany who were apprentices during our visit).

The Cleire Goats farm also has a small shop that sells goat ice cream, cottage cheese, and milk chocolate. The farm is a good uphill climb from the village, so you'll probably be ready for an ice cream by the time you get there.
